Advancing Ibogaine Awareness

Our mission is to advance public understanding and responsible medical access to ibogaine and other psychedelic medicines—including psilocybin, LSD, MDMA, and related therapies—for addiction, trauma, and co-occurring mental health conditions. Through science-based education, research support, and policy advocacy, we work to reduce stigma and accelerate safe, evidence-based adoption of these treatments in Canada.
Canada faces a serious opioid epidemic and mental health challenges that claim thousands of lives each year. Conventional treatments help many, but far too many Canadians continue to struggle with addiction, trauma, and despair. Psychedelic therapies like ibogaine, psilocybin, LSD, and MDMA offer promising, neuroscience-backed approaches that can address root causes—interrupting destructive patterns and promoting lasting healing—rather than simply managing symptoms.
These medicines may provide renewed hope for those who have exhausted other options.
Canada’s Mental Health & Addiction Crisis Demands Better Solutions
Standard approaches help many—but far too many people remain stuck in cycles of suffering despite their best efforts. Psychedelic medicines offer a fundamentally different path. Rather than masking symptoms, they can promote neuroplasticity, interrupt destructive patterns, facilitate emotional breakthroughs, and support profound, lasting healing when used responsibly in supervised settings. These are not miracle cures, nor are they right for everyone. But for many who have tried everything else, they have sparked genuine transformation—helping people become healthier, kinder, clearer, and more connected versions of themselves.
Ibogaine is a naturally occurring psychoactive alkaloid derived from the root bark of the Tabernanthe iboga plant. It has shown strong potential to reduce severe opioid withdrawal, diminish cravings, and deliver profound psychological insights that support sustained recovery.
Psilocybin (found in certain mushrooms) and MDMA have demonstrated remarkable results in clinical trials for treatment-resistant depression, PTSD, anxiety, and addiction. When administered in supervised therapeutic settings, they can facilitate emotional breakthroughs, increase psychological flexibility, and produce lasting improvements in mood and outlook.
LSD, one of the most historically researched psychedelics, has shown promise in alleviating anxiety (including end-of-life anxiety), depression, and alcohol use disorder. Modern studies of both full-dose and microdose protocols indicate it can enhance mood, emotional openness, and psychological flexibility, with benefits that often continue for months after treatment. Emerging research, including studies on veterans, shows meaningful reductions in PTSD, depression, and anxiety symptoms—often with benefits persisting for months or longer after just one or a few guided sessions. These are not cure-alls and are not suitable for everyone; they require careful medical screening and professional oversight due to potential risks. Yet for many, they represent transformative tools that conventional treatments have not matched.
The Science and the Promise
Clinical research, veteran studies, and thousands of personal accounts reveal meaningful, sometimes life-changing reductions in symptoms that often persist long after treatment. When administered with proper medical screening, and therapeutic support, these tools can help people reclaim their lives.
The power of these medicines is best captured in the words of those whose lives they have changed. Veterans, leaders, and survivors have shared experiences that resonate deeply with the struggles faced by Canadians:
“Everything that prohibited me from being the best version of myself, I have completely shut out of my life thanks to ibogaine.”
— Marcus Luttrell, Retired U.S. Navy SEAL and author of Lone Survivor
“My job, and our job, is to be able to educate the people about this psychoactive plant medicine that is absolutely showing a stunning ability to bring people back to normalcy — to literally give them their lives back.”
— Rick Perry, Former Governor of Texas and U.S. Secretary of Energy
“Before the treatment, I was living life in a blizzard with zero visibility and a cold, hopeless, listless feeling… After ibogaine, the storm lifted.”
— Sean, U.S. veteran (Stanford-affiliated study participant)
“Participants showed significant reductions in PTSD symptoms, depression, and anxiety that persisted at the one-month follow-up.”
— Nature Medicine, Stanford University Ibogaine Trial (2024)
“That experience changed everything. It gave me a second chance.” (describing his psychedelic journey that helped heal trauma and set him on a path of recovery)
— Shawn Ryan, Former Navy SEAL, CIA contractor, and host of The Shawn Ryan Show
These stories echo the experiences of Canadians who have accessed these therapies and returned transformed—free from cravings, with renewed clarity, purpose, and connection.
By supporting domestic research and regulated access, we can bring this potential safely home.
Canadians for Ibogaine will strive to unite patients, families, clinicians, researchers, veterans, and policymakers committed to evidence-based progress across psychedelic medicines. We will advocate for expanded research, modern regulatory pathways (including Health Canada’s Special Access Program), and supervised domestic treatment options so Canadians no longer need to travel abroad. Our focus will include supporting clinical studies, educating the public and professionals, engaging policymakers, and amplifying real stories of recovery.
